Work It Out

In high school I was a jock. I played field hockey, basketball and my favorite, softball. I loved playing sports and being active in high school. It was a great way to make friends and the perfect reason to eat whatever I want! Now, as a college student, it's completely different. I've gotten a little lazy and I haven't yet carried any of my jockiness into college. So, I've decided to challenge myself and start hitting up the gym on my own! So far, my commitment has been shaky due to weather (I've been snowed in most of the week), but I still desire to go to the gym to relive a lot of emotions and to tone up some.

While shopping for clothes I decided to share some nice workout shopping finds and share my challenge with you. I highly encourage everyone to workout at least once a week. It's actually a perfect natural way to fall asleep and makeup for that pizza you ate at 2:00 am. Plus in about 20 years, you'll be thankful!

Top, Headbands, Bottle, Shirt, Spandex, Jacket, Hat, Armband, Watch, Shoes, Bag, Grey Shorts, Black Shorts, Sports Bra, Pants

Workout Tips:

  • Don't be afraid to go alone! It's fun to bring a friend but don't let solitude stop you!
  • Eat before you workout! I suggest something small and healthy before you workout and save dinner for after with a nice relaxing shower!
  • Drink water! Don't wait until you're sweating, gasping for air and extremely thirsty. That's a sign your body needs water and you may be dehydrated.
  • Be safe! If you don't know how to use the equipment, ask! It's safer and less embarrassing & wear proper gear for the gym. Extremely loose clothing can lead to an accident.
  • Eat healthy! Eat healthy through the day, especially if you plan to workout. You workout better on a PB&J rather than donuts and a coke.
  • Don't be afraid to look cute! Don't be intimidated by the guys working out. They probably won't pay attention, so look cute for you! They're a bonus. (;
  • Don't restrict yourself! Do yoga, dancing classes, club sports or self defense classes. Anything that gives a good workout will do.
  • Have fun! Make a workout play-list! The more fun you'll have, the easier it'll be and the better your results will turn out.

Do you have a workout plan? And how do you stay cute in the gym? Happy Sunday!

    Tad Bit Rebellious

    Cardigan: Vintage

    Jeans: F21

    Top: Old Navy

    Hat: H&M

    Boots: Nine West

A rather simple outfit to run errands with my mom. It looked a bit rebellious, once I saw the pictures, especially with the shape of the cardigan and the boots. And I'm still trying to find the perfect place to take outfit photos between home and my dorm. It's usually too cold out, dark or I'm too chicken. :P

    What's In Your Purse?

I always find what people hold in their purse interesting and not in a creeper kind of way. My purse currently consists of the above items. When I carry a bigger purse, I have more useless crap in my purse. I'm currently reading The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult which I recommend reading. I recommend all of her books actually. Whether it's in my purse of hand, my Chapstick, cellphone and wallet go with me about 95% of the time!

    DIY: Tree Jewelry Holder

So, recenlty I made this tree jewlry holder because no matter what, I have nowhere to put my long necklaces and I was feeling creative. I decided to share this little DIY project that I did. This project took me all of 5 minutes to actually put together and cost me about $2.90 collectivley. It's a lot cheaper than buying a jewlry holder that are never big enough.

    You'll need:

    • 1 glass vase (make sure it's clean!)
    • rocks/stones
    • tree branch (dried for 24hrs or more)
    • spray paint (optional)
    • green plant foam (optional)
    • clay (optional)

You can get the materials for you tree jewelry holder from a thrift store or dollar store and your back/front yard. For the optional items (that I didn't use) you may have to go to a craft store. I got my vase for 90 cents from a thrift store, the rocks for $1 in Dollar Tree and my front yard for the stick. Your branch should be pretty strong. If not, only use light jewelry or it will droop, drag and fall apart. Also make sure you pick a branch with room for all your jewelry including rings & bracelets.

    Steps:

    1. Dry out your branch for 24 hours or more. If you're a busy person, just go get your branch and let it sit in a safe place until you're ready. Note: You may use more than one branch too!
    2. You can spray paint your branch which would need 24 more hours to dry out. I didn't spray paint mine.
    3. Fill your vase carefully with the stones about 1/3.
    4. Position your branch in the center of the vase with one hand before adding more rocks with the other. The more rocks you fill up the vase with, the more stable the stick should get. Once you're at the top you can pick out small rocks to fill any open spaces.   Note: You can also buy fake foam or clay to stick your branch in and stabalize and anchor it more.
    5. After your vase is filled with rocks and your branch is stable, you're done!
    6. Add jewelry & Enjoy!

I love my jewelry holder and ended up making my mom one too with white rocks and left over rocks from the ones in the picture above. It really does come in handy because my necklaces are never tangled and everything is pretty grab-and-go. I always forget my accessories because I'm in a rush and they're always hidden. The only down side is that there's no where to put stud earrings. A small dish bowl is the only solution I have for the moment. I also have so many books so I decided to stack up some books and use it so that my extra long necklaces could dangle.

I hope you enjoy this project! Feel free to contact me if I've left a step out or you need more help! What's your favorite DIY project?

      Golden Globes Best Looks.

As usual, the Golden Globes were filled with stars all glamed up! Just about everyone looked stunning. I picked all the lovely ladies of the Golden Globes that just amazed me! Oliva Wilde was my absolute favorite look! She looked like a princess in her chocolate gown. I feel kind of bad for the guys because they never get as much attention, but maybe they like it that way. They have no pressures (or the fun) of finding the perfect dress. Enjoy these amazing looks.

      lovely links- jan 16, 2011

♥If you wear makeup, even if it's not daily, it's important to keep your make up clean and healthy and April Mae over at Black Studded Fashion tells us just how with THIS helpful post.

♥I thought these little illustrations of Paris vs New York Rachel posted on her blog, At First Blush, were adorable. I'd love to have these hanging on my walls (whenever I get an apartment, lol). Paris and NY are important and different little fashion planets that are well worth visiting.

♥I loved this post by Anjli on College Candy about being single. The post is a 'lesson' of the Single Girl's Society. This particular lesson says that Being Single Dosen't Mean Being On The Prowl 24/7. It can be sort of convincing, not to be on the prowl all the time. I mean one point I really liked was that time is 100% yours, meaning no putting time aside, doing things that bore you just to please someone else or even getting out of bed if you don't want to. Even though it's nice not being single, maybe it's nice being single too. You can also read the first six rules of the Single Girl's Society here.

♥I'm always reading posts, articles and photography websites on how to take better pictures or everything, even yourself! If you have a fashion blog, or you're the only model you have, these tips by Ciao Chessa on IFB are helpful. She has some amazing self portraits I was sure she used a photographer with, but all it took was a DSLR camera, a tripod and a wireless remote. Check it out HERE.

♥This week also won a shoe giveaway by Im Just Me! As soon I receive my lovely shoes I'll take some pics. You can see them here and visit her amazing blog. My win made me more excited to start my own giveaway that I've been planning. So stay tuned to both of our blogs for more giveaways!

♥Last week I shared a link about the new magazine Atomica which has been launched, so if you haven't already. Check it out here. It's pretty amazing and just reminds me that talent is everywhere! You can still contact and submit for future issues.

PS: In a previous post I was going to go back and get the Wet Seal jacket, but they uped the price. I'm not sure why they uped the price on a clearance item :/. I should have purchased it when I tried it on, but I barely wear jackets as it is. Enjoy these links!

      The Murse

When we think of hand bags we typically think it's a women's accessory. In the past couple of years mens handbangs (aka murses) have become more popular in the United States. Designers such as Louis Vuitton and Prada have displayed their fashionable handbags on the runway. An article in Nylon magazine about designer Alex Toy creating unisex handbags sparked my interest in the mens accessory. Some people frown upon the idea, but as women we know how handy a lovely handbag can be... can't men have the same pleasures?

Men's handbags can range from messenger bags to totes and are typically more structured than women's handbags. The only bags I've seen the male species carry are their Nike, Jansport and Northface backpacks on campus and a briefcase and suitcase/carry on in the airport. Celebes like Kanye West, Usher and Robert Downey Jr. have been spotted with their murses in random places. Murses are available for the artsy man, the athlete, the travel man and the business man.

Here are a few murses you can browse or purchase for a man you know who likes to accessorize. Or, get them for yourself!

      Look for Less: Jessica Simpson

I'm not sure why, but I fell in love with Jessica Simpson's poncho look. Her cashmere turtleneck poncho sweater is Ralph  Lauren costing $700. That's a lot of dough, but if you have the cash, it's worth it. I also loved the mix of the gloves, the sunglasses and the purse. It gave her a very classy and warm look. Jessica Simpson is growing as a fashion icon on me. I mean, her line of clothing, handbags and shoes are amazing and pretty affordable!

      lovely links<3

Some lovely links I saw this week to share with you all. Don't be afraid to check them out! Have a happy Sunday!

♥There's absoultley nothing wrong with eating, but try eating healthy for a month! Seventeen.com composed meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner and some snacks! It could definatley help you in attempting your new years resolution of eating healthy and getting fit. Plust it could possibly get you through school until spring break if you try it for a couple of months! The post is from March 2010, but don't let that stop you! Find it HERE.

♥When I read this blog post by Nish over at SheGotIshShoes, I fell in love with it (and her blog). The reason is most likely due to the fact that I personally can relate as letting loose when it comes to fashion is a goal of 2011.

♥I'm not sure if you've heard but Kelsa at Let's Be Threads is on the rise of starting a new online and print magazine, Atomica Magazine. The magazine is composed of work from all kinds of bloggers across the nation. I'm actaually really excited to see it June 15th! You can see about contributing to their magazine here and view it at http://atomicamag.com/!

Charlotte of College Fashion wrote a very interesting and inspirational article with 5 challanges to try in 2011. The challanges included wearing no jeans for a month and wearing only six items for a month. I previously read about a College Fashion writer who did the six items for a month challange. I think these are some real challanges that can probably teach you to appreciate the rest of your clothes a little more, lol. See all five of the challanges here.

Wet Seal Jacket : Yay or Nay?

So, this was my first outing with my new lovely Nikon D3000 and my first self portrait with it! I love it and not just because I'm in it, but because the quality is georgous. The lighting in the Wet Seal fitting room was perfect now that I think about it. (:

I found this cute (and cheap) leather jacket w/ faux fur trimming at Wet Seal. It looked just as cheap as it was, but it was kind of cute. I didn't buy it because I had to buy something else for New Years and I wasn't too sure about it. I wish the sleeves didn't have the faux fur trimming and were a tad bit shorter. Oddly, I don't even wear a jacket while it's cold out and I like in New Englad (USA). It was on clerance for about $13 and they had it in black as well. I'm thinking about going back to get it and if my size is still there, then it's meant to be!

What are your thoughts on this Wet Seal jacket? Yay or nay?

      Hello 2011.

How was everyone's New Year?! Mine was pretty okay. Not long after 2011 began, I was ready to go to sleep. LOL But the BEST part of New Years was dressing up! I did some too much shopping and I kind of forgot New Years was coming up and I quickly put together a cute little outfit. I went to some thrift shops as well, but I'll save that for another post!

The first two outfit pics were taken when I finally got home with my Nikon P80 because my D3000 had died earlier. The last single one was taken with my D3000 before I left the house (please excuse my hair clips lol). I've also been considering getting a lookbook, but I may have to wait until my outfit pictures get better or I get more followers.

      let's break it down:

      Blazer- TJ Maxx

      Top- Old Navy

      Skirt- Wet Seal

      Tights- H&M

      Necklace- F21

I've been so preoccupied playing with my new Nikon D3000 (my Christmas gift to myself), doing some writing and tumblr and I know I haven't been updating as much as I usually do, but my Nikon is my new baby and my current obsession. So far it's a pretty amazing camera and my pictures come out better than I expected! I still love my Nikon Coolpix P80, buttttt my D3000 is a best!

Here are some pics from my Nikon D3000 of dinner on New Years Eve. The dinner came with 5 dishes and beef with crab cake was the main course. They also had a huge chocolate bar with a chocolate fountain and chocolate covered bacon! Be sure to check out more of my pics like these on my new flickr!

What did you guys wear on New Years?!?
